Using Creative Commons inworld.

Reccently, I recived a Group Notice asking me to partake in a JIRA issue to force LL in adding more restrictions on content. Now, at the risk of getting griefed from here to next week, I don’t really agree with that. Here’s why:

  • There will still be ways to get around it.
  • It will stifle creativity.

Instead of that, I prefer using Creative Commons. Their website has plenty of infomation, but I’m going to give you a quick rundown:

  • You can allow people to share and modify things based on your terms
  • It’s easy
  • It’s quick
  • No legal mumbo-jumbo
  • It’s free

I haven’t built anything yet, but all of my pictures on Flickr that I’ve taken are under CC, and you can mix them up and do whatever you like with them, as long as you don’t sell them.

That’s what people want, at the end of the day, free, unrestricted stuff to do what they want with it, like redecorating it to their tastes.

Now before anyone says it, I don’t avocate stealing, far from it. I’m just offering my POV. By all means flame me if you really hate it, I’ll respectfully ignore you.
